Small Picture Frames for Wedding Favors
This is the one frame purchase decided almost entirely by arithmetic: whatever you like, multiply it by your guest count before you decide you like it.
By Janet H. · Published

For most receptions the right answer is a heavy cardstock paper frame with an easel back, bought by the fifty - the Better Office Products 50-pack is the cleanest version of it. It does the job a favor frame actually has to do, which is hold a photo or a place card on a table for one evening and travel home in a handbag.
Glass and resin frames look better and cost several times as much per guest. Both are valid; which one is right depends entirely on whether the frame is the favor or the packaging for it.

Start with the arithmetic, not the frame
A frame that costs a dollar more than another one is a rounding error on a single purchase and a three-figure decision on a wedding. Work out your per-guest budget before you look at a single listing.
| Frame type | Rough per-unit bracket | At 50 guests | At 100 guests |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paper or cardstock with easel back | Well under a dollar each in 50-packs | Low tens of dollars | Still low tens of dollars |
| Unfinished wood for DIY | Under a dollar each in 40-packs | Low tens, plus paint and time | Low tens doubled, plus a lot more time |
| Glass or mirrored-edge tabletop frames | A few dollars each in 12-packs | Low hundreds | Several hundred |
| Resin ornate or baroque mini frames | A few dollars each in 12-packs | Low hundreds | Several hundred |
| Acrylic place card holders | Well under a dollar each in 100-packs | Low tens of dollars | Low tens of dollars |
What a favor frame actually has to survive
A reception is a short, specific test, and it is not the same test a frame on a shelf faces. Four things matter and almost nothing else does.
- It has to stand up on a cloth. Tablecloths are soft and uneven. A frame with a narrow easel foot tips; a wide fold-out easel or a weighted glass base does not. This is the most common failure and the least discussed one.
- It has to be assembled fast, in bulk. Fifty frames that each take two minutes to load is an hour and a half of someone’s wedding week. Look for a slide-in or fold-over opening rather than four turn-tabs on the back.
- It has to travel home. Glass in a handbag or a coat pocket is a real risk. If guests are leaving on foot or in taxis at midnight, that is an argument for paper, resin or acrylic.
- It has to take the photo size you already have. 4x6 is the size almost every print shop produces by default, and almost every bulk favor frame is built for it. Ordering a frame in an unusual size means a custom print run too - the picture frame sizes chart covers what is standard and what is not.
The four materials, and who each one is right for
| Material | Reads as | Strengths | Honest weakness |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heavy cardstock / paper | Deliberately simple, modern, disposable | Cheapest by a wide margin; light to post; fastest to load | It is paper - it creases, and nobody keeps it on a shelf for years |
| Unfinished wood | Craft, rustic, personal | Takes paint, stain or a calligraphed name; genuinely keepable | Unfinished means unfinished - budget hours, not minutes, for 40 of them |
| Glass with a mirrored or silver edge | Formal, traditional, gift-shop quality | The only option that reads as a real present; stands firmly on cloth | Heaviest, priciest, and breakable on the journey home |
| Resin ornate / baroque | Vintage, maximal, strongly styled | More visual impact per dollar than glass; lighter than it looks | A very specific look that has to match the wedding or it fights it |
If you want the frame to be the gift rather than the wrapper, the same logic applies at a larger size on best wedding picture frames, which covers the single engraved or matted frame given to a couple rather than the hundred given to guests.
Making one purchase do two jobs
The cheapest wedding favor is the one that was already in the budget for something else. Three combinations work:
- Favor plus place card. Put the guest’s name card in the frame on the table setting. It is the escort card during dinner and the favor afterward, so one line item covers both. This works best with a paper or acrylic frame, because it has to be legible at a glance rather than ornamental.
- Favor plus table decoration. A cluster of three or five mini frames per table, holding photographs of the couple, replaces part of the centerpiece spend and gets distributed at the end of the night.
- Favor plus guest book. Hand out paper frames with a clip and string, let guests write a message, and hang them on a line. You end up with the decoration, the guest book and the favor from one purchase.
For the third option specifically, a clip-and-string set is a better buy than a rigid frame, and the same hanging-line idea scales up afterward into a proper gallery wall layout if you want to keep the photographs up at home.
How many to order
- Order 10 percent over your guest count, not your exact count. Frames get damaged in transit, loaded wrong, and handed to late additions.
- Count attending adults, not invitations. A couple sharing a table setting still takes two favors home in most cases, but children often do not take one at all.
- Check whether the pack count is frames or pieces. Some listings count a frame and its easel insert separately. The product cards below name the pack size as the seller states it.
- Expect a small surplus either way. Leftover paper frames are useful; leftover glass frames in a 12-pack format are harder to absorb, which is another argument for the cheaper material at high counts.
How these picks were chosen
Every pick had to clear four criteria before anything about appearance was considered:
- It has to be sold in a genuine bulk pack. Six units minimum, and preferably thirty or more - a two-pack is not a favor purchase.
- The pack count and the photo size have to be stated by the seller. Both decide the per-guest cost, so a listing that is vague about either is one we cannot assess.
- It has to stand on a table on its own. Wall-only frames are not favor frames.
- It has to be currently purchasable. Every product on this page was verified as a live, in-stock Amazon listing before publication, and each card links to that exact listing.
We have not hosted a wedding to test these, and nothing below is presented as hands-on testing. These are cost-checked picks based on seller-published pack counts, sizes and materials, with a stated reason to skip each one.

Common questions
How much should wedding favor frames cost per guest?
It depends on whether the frame is the favor or the holder. A heavy cardstock frame in a 50-pack comes in well under a dollar a guest, so a hundred-guest wedding stays in low tens of dollars. A glass or resin frame in a 12-pack runs a few dollars each, which turns the same hundred guests into several hundred dollars. Work out the per-guest figure before choosing the material, not after.
What size picture frame is best for a wedding favor?
4x6. It is the size almost every print shop produces by default and the size almost every bulk favor frame is built around, so you are not paying for a custom print run on top of the frames. Anything smaller starts to look like a keyring rather than a frame, and anything larger is awkward to carry home.
Can a picture frame be both the place card and the favor?
Yes, and it is the best-value version of this idea. Put each guest's name card in the frame at their setting: it works as the escort card through dinner and goes home as the favor afterward. Use a paper or acrylic frame for this rather than an ornate one, because the name has to be legible at a glance from standing height.
How many favor frames should you order?
About 10 percent over your attending adult count. Frames arrive damaged, get loaded wrong and get handed to late additions, and the overage costs very little on a cheap bulk pack. Count attending adults rather than invitations - children often do not take a favor at all.
Are paper picture frames good enough for a wedding?
For a favor, usually yes. A heavy cardstock frame with a fold-out easel stands properly on a tablecloth, loads in seconds, and travels home without breaking. What it will not do is sit on a shelf for ten years. If the frame itself is meant to be the gift, move to glass or resin and accept the per-guest cost.
What about unfinished wood frames for a DIY favor?
They are the only bulk option that can carry each guest's name in your own hand, which is what makes a mass-produced favor feel personal. The cost is time, not money: forty frames to paint, letter and dry is a weekend's work. Order a small pack first and time yourself on five before committing to the full count.
Where should favor frames go - the table setting or a gift table?
The table setting, if the frame holds the place card, because then every guest has already interacted with it before they decide whether to take it. A gift table at the exit suits heavier glass frames that would crowd a place setting, but expect a meaningful number to be left behind.
