Check the wall surface before you buy anything. Painted cinder block is porous and uneven, and most adhesive products fail on it regardless of their rating.

What the housing contract usually says
Read it before you buy. Most university housing agreements name specific prohibitions, and the fines are per-item rather than per-room:
- Nails, screws, tacks and pins — essentially always forbidden.
- Adhesive hooks and strips — frequently allowed on drywall, frequently banned on block. Some contracts name brands explicitly.
- Tape of any kind — usually forbidden, because it removes paint.
- Anything on the ceiling or the back of the door — often a fire-safety restriction rather than a damage one.
- Coverage limits — some contracts cap the percentage of wall that can be covered, again for fire safety.
