The information here is guidance, not a guarantee

We publish manufacturers’ stated specifications and widely used conventions, sourced and linked. We check them carefully, but specifications are revised, products are reformulated, and a figure that was correct when written may not be correct when you read it.

Always check the weight rating printed on the product packaging before you hang anything. That figure, from the manufacturer, on the product you actually bought, is the one that governs.

Safety

Hanging objects on walls carries risk. Items can fall, walls vary in construction and condition, and no published rating accounts for a wall you cannot see inside. You are responsible for assessing your own wall, your own load and your own circumstances.

Take particular care with anything hung above a bed, above a child’s space, or anywhere a fall could cause injury — and with mirrors and glass at any weight. Where you are unsure, use a qualified installer.

Rental agreements are your responsibility

This site discusses methods that leave little or no mark, but what your lease permits is between you and your landlord. Read your tenancy agreement. Nothing here is legal advice or a defense against a deposit deduction.
