How the links work

Product links on this site point at an address beginning /go/ on our own domain. That address looks up the product and forwards you to the retailer with our affiliate tag attached.

The indirection exists so that if a product moves, is discontinued, or is better bought from a different retailer, we can change the destination in one place rather than rewriting the articles that link to it. It does not track you beyond what the retailer records on arrival, and it is excluded from search engines.

What commission does not change

• What we recommend. Picks are ordered by the specification that decides the purchase. Where the cheap option is sufficient, we say so — and in this category the cheap option is sufficient more often than not.
• The order picks appear in. Position is not for sale.
• Whether a comparison has a buy path for both sides. Every comparison on this site gives you a route to either option, including the one that pays us less.

Why we do not print prices

Prices change constantly. Rather than type a number into an article that will be wrong within weeks, we link you to the live listing and let the retailer show you what it costs today. Where a buy button on this site reads “Check price on Amazon”, that is the honest state of things, not an omission.

Retailers we work with

Currently Amazon, through the Amazon Associates program. If we add another retailer — because it is better for you on price, stock or warranty — the same editorial rules apply regardless of what the commission looks like, and this page will name it.

Disclosure on the page itself

Every page carrying affiliate links shows a disclosure above the first one, not only in the footer, and every buy button is marked #ad. A disclosure you have to go looking for is not a disclosure.
