Acrylic vs Glass Glazing
The most consequential frame decision for anyone who cannot drill, and the one most listings bury in the specification table.

Acrylic for anything 18x24 or larger, anything hung with adhesive strips, and anywhere breakage would matter. Glass for smaller frames at eye level where scratches would show.
Acrylic weighs roughly half what glass does at the same size. On a 24x36 frame that is frequently the difference between sitting inside the 16 lb adhesive ceiling and needing a hook in the wall.

Why the weight difference matters so much
Two consequences beyond hanging. A large sheet of glass falling from head height is a genuine hazard — particularly above a bed, a sofa or anywhere a child plays. The real cost of acrylic
It scratches, and the scratches are visible in raking light in a way glass scratches are not. Most of that damage happens during cleaning rather than in normal use.
- Soft microfibre cloth only. Paper towel is abrasive enough to haze acrylic over a few cleans.
- No ammonia. Standard blue glass cleaner crazes acrylic — fine cracks that cannot be removed. Use plain water or a cleaner labeled for acrylic.
- Dust first, wipe second. Wiping dust across acrylic is what scratches it. Blow or lift the dust off before the cloth touches the surface.

Does acrylic glazing scratch easily?
